Why I don’t pose babies

I want your portraits to look timeless and classic

We’ve all seen the Anne Geddes baby photos with gobs of props and particular poses. These types of photos were very trendy back in the day.

The truth is these posed baby photos took a whole team of professionals to create. And we can look back on those photos and say, “That was popular then, but not so much now.”

You only get newborn portraits once. I want them to look timeless and classic so you will look back years from now and still love the style.

It’s a safety issue

Another reason why I don’t pose babies is that I won’t put a newborn baby in an unnatural position. I don’t want your baby to be in any situation where safety could be compromised.

It’s not natural for a newborn to rest their head on their hands, nor does it represent what a real newborn baby looks like.

I believe in baby-lead posing

My photography style is all about a natural and genuine look.

Baby-lead posing involves safely laying your newborn on a bed and letting them naturally do what is comfortable for them. I’ll move around your baby to get the different angles that look best for newborn portraits.

This method keeps stress low by letting your baby feel relaxed during the whole session. But it’s not only more relaxing for your newborn. It’s so much more relaxing for the parents, (and the photographer) as well!

Plus, the images we capture are all the more beautiful and special because your baby is perfect just as they are. Their natural expressions and movements are what you will want to remember forever.
