Best Outdoor Locations for Family Portraits
While I love shooting portraits in my studio, there is something special about outdoor photo sessions. The natural light and beautiful scenery create the perfect backdrop, while the fresh air and open space keep everyone relaxed and comfortable.
Are you looking for the best outdoor locations for family portraits in the Denver area? Whether you seek a serene setting surrounded by nature or a vibrant urban backdrop bursting with energy, consider these three locations to capture your family's unique personality and style.
1) Washington Park
Washington Park is an urban park centrally located in Denver, CO. Featuring 155 acres of grounds, including two lakes, two flower gardens, lush landscaping, and winding trails, the park offers plenty of variety. Large, mature trees give a rich backdrop for family portraits, and the large open spaces provide privacy in this public setting.
2) Roxborough State Park
Just a short drive southwest of Denver, Roxborough State Park is full of stunning and unique views. The park’s dramatic red sandstone formations make a gorgeous backdrop for family portraits. After your session, stay and enjoy the various plant and wildlife the 4000-acre park offers.
Parking is easy, but please note there is a fee to enter the park. Also, be sure to plan for extra time to travel inside of the park. Lastly, to preserve natural resources, pets are not allowed.
3) Denver Art Museum
If you prefer a clean and modern backdrop for your portraits, the Denver Art Museum is a beautiful choice. Located in downtown Denver, the outdoor area surrounding the museum is full of wide-open spaces with a variety of scenery. This location does not have much vegetation, so it feels very urban and full of energy.
