A Film of my Family

Where do I begin with talking about this film?

This is my family. All 5 of us.

Yes, I popped in front of the lens as well!

I took this footage over Thanksgiving Break when we had our first snowfall.

I had just gotten a new lens (Sigma 35mm Art Lens). I learned about this lens after attending an intimate, all women, film collective in Savannah, GA.

When I first saw a film created with this lens by a fellow photographer, I was in awe at how “dreamlike” it felt.

That’s how I think of memories. They feel dreamlike.

Finding time edit my own footage is tough since I prioritize completing client projects but I am so glad I found the time to edit this film of my family.

I treated it just like I do my client projects.

I blocked off a few hours (made sure the kiddos were taken care of) and “got in the zone” by shutting out all light in my office, putting on my noise-cancelling headphones and set myself down in my ergonomic desk chair.

I was surprised at hour emotional I was while editing.

I felt proud.

I felt nostalgic.

I felt sad.

Most of all I felt joy.

This is my goal. To evoke emotion with films.

So enjoy this glimpse into an afternoon in our backyard.
